Physiotherapy is a treatment you may need when health problems make it hard to move around and do everyday tasks. It helps you move better and may relieve pain. It also helps improve or restore your physical function and your fitness level. The goal of physiotherapy is to make daily tasks and activities easier; help your joints move better and to restore or increase your flexibility, strength, endurance, coordination, and/or balance.

Our Treatments are Hands-on and Movement based with minimal use of machines or equipment. Sessions are strictly one-on-one and there is no switching between clients.
We use a blend of two " Whole Body Approach" Philosophies.

1. John Barnes Myofascial Release Approach:
Myofascial Release is a safe and very effective hands-on technique that involves applying gentle sustained pressure into the Myofascial connective tissue restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion.
The use of Myofascial Release allows us to look at each client as a unique individual. Our one-on-one therapy sessions are hands-on treatments during which we use a multitude of Myofascial Release techniques and movement therapy. We promote independence through education in proper body mechanics and movement, self treatment instruction, enhancement of strength, improved flexibility, and postural and movement awareness.

2. Functional Movement Systems (Selective Functional Movement Assessment):
Standardized Movement Based Diagnostic Screening, Testing, Assessment and Rehab System used generally by Professional Sports teams. Selective Functional Movement Assessment or SFMA helps to identify movement dysfunction which can be a result of pain.
It is based upon the concept that seemingly unrelated impairments in a remote anatomical region may contribute or associated with the client's primary complaint. It gives us a baseline information whether the issue is mobility, stability or motor control dysfunction.
Based on assessment, appropriate interventions in the form of mobility exercises or stability/motor control reloading exercises are discussed.

Massage Therapy

We have an elite team of RMT’s at The Core. You can be assured that you will have a therapist who can adjust the therapy to your individual needs. They work the deep layers of the muscle and connective tissue to enhance function and aid in the healing process to obtain optimal heath.

As a dedicated Chinese Medicine Practitioner, I have come to understand that the human body is a complex thing.

One of the underlying principles of Chinese Medicine is the recognition of patterns within complexity. Large amount of complex information can be synthesized, and viewed with a sophisticated simplicity. A Chinese Medicine Practitioner can utilize the same methods of diagnosis, pattern differentiation method and treatment that Practitioners have been using for thousands of years, to treat that very same pattern often with profound results. One of the big differences between Western medicine and Chinese Medicine is that Chinese Medicine is focused on restoring the functional mechanisms in the body versus

After graduating from the Acupuncture & Chinese Medicine school in 2005, I sought out work in a setting where I could have as much exposure to as many different approaches to treatment as possible. I landed two jobs in Calgary: one as a practitioner in a multi-disciplinary clinic inside of Mount Royal University (Optimal Therapies) and other at the polar opposite end of the healthcare spectrum as a Unit Clerk on an Acute Neurosciences unit at a large hospital.

Those years were full of so many valuable experiences of such a wide variety of patients and approaches from the treatment of pain and neurological issues, to infertility, digestive and emotional issues.

My passion to delve deeper into the roots of Chinese Medicine led me to pursue post graduate studies in 2012 with the Institute of Classics of East Asian Medicine in Portland, Oregon (www.iceam.org); which is an worldwide institution dedicated to the study and clinical application of important Chinese Medical texts from the Han dynasty. I am in the final stages of becoming a diplomat of ICEAM and will be continuing on to obtain fellowship status from this institute.

These Han Dynasty texts, (the Shang Han Lun and Jin Gui Yao Lue) are considered to be among the most important texts in Chinese Medicine history, influencing most of what has come after it. They are also practical clinical manuals which can be considered a system for treating nearly every possible health condition – and in spite of advances in Western Medicine – the fundamental reality is the human body has remained the same over the past few thousand years. The original author, Zhang Zhong Jing – is considered the grandfather of Chinese Herbal Medicine.

In addition to my ICEAM studies, I am also committed to formal studies with the Xinglin Institute (www.xinglininstitute.org) which also has a focus on research into the origins of Chinese Medicine – specifically focusing on a text known as the Nei Jing. The Nei Jing preceded the texts of Zhang Zhong Jing, and its is considered the these writings provide the theories and terms that have sustained the practice of Chinese medicine to the current day. It is considered the primary text of Chinese Medicine theory.

The core purpose for these studies is to gain a better understanding of the root principles of Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture, beyond the basics that are taught in Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine schools and back to the roots of this powerful medicine.

In addition to acupuncture, I prescribe herbal medicine, and I am also certified to do prolotherapy, trigger point injections and high grade b12 injections.

I am so proud to be part of an amazing team of caring and skilled healthcare practitioners at The Core Centre of Health in downtown Kelowna.

Natascha’s post-graduate education has focussed largely on the highly researched world of “pain science”; essentially understanding how and why we feel pain and how we can use that knowledge to help us overcome pain, especially persistent pain. It is through this modern understanding of how and why pain manifests that she finds the greatest value in providing healing touch. Her keen interest and continued reading and education in the science of pain allow her to empower you on your journey towards a life in which persistent pain plays a smaller role. Her aim is to facilitate your body’s own ability to heal from injury and to let go of pain that no longer serves a purpose by providing treatment and, where appropriate, education, self-care exercises and referrals to other practitioners here at The Core Center for Health to facilitate your recovery.

Natascha firmly believes that you, her patients, are some of her most valuable teachers. She approaches her practice with an evidence-based mindset, which means drawing on both quality, published research and practical, clinical experience. It is only by really listening to your experiences and ideas and by taking a collaborative approach to your healing that Natascha feels she is able to truly abide by the principles of evidence-based practice.

When you book a massage therapy appointment with Natascha you can expect a brief review of relevant medical history; discussion and brief assessment of your current condition; massage therapy treatment that focuses on your nervous system’s response; an individualized treatment; self-care exercises or recommendations as needed.

Natascha is a graduate of the Vancouver College of Massage Therapy and recipient a 2018 Student Case Study Award granted by the Registered Massage Therapists of British Columbia. Her previous background includes an undergraduate degree in Politics and Philosophy from York University, UK and medical conference organisation at a not-for-profit society in Lausanne, Switzerland. It was a desire for understanding more about the human body and for helping people find lasting relief from pain, providing support to people’s bodies in their natural ability to heal and helping people find a state of well-being that motivated Natascha to change her path to Registered Massage Therapy.

When she’s not in the clinic you will find Natascha curled up with a good book, paddle-boarding on the lake in the summer, skiing in the winter, on her yoga mat, or hanging out with her two cats.

After developing and running a successful Physiotherapy & Massage Therapy practice in Northern Ontario for two years, Shardul moved closer to mountains to the beautiful western Canada which has always been his calling. It was challenging to let go of a busy stable practice but he always believed that one needs to get out of their comfort zone often to learn and grow. He felt the need to take this step for his personal, professional growth and have different life experiences.

Shardul graduated from Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences’ four and a half year Bachelor of Physiotherapy Program (B.P.T) program in India before moving to Canada in 2011. He, then pursued his further education in Massage Therapy and graduated with Program Dean’s Honor List from Lambton College Massage Therapy program in Sarnia.

What makes Shardul unique as a Physiotherapist is his hands-on Myofascial Release Approach. He blends John Barnes Myofascial Release approach with Selective Functional Movement Assessment. This is based on Regional Interdependence- A Whole Body Approach. Finding the root cause of the pain, not just focusing on the symptoms and then focus on learning new functional patterns, thereby eyeing for functional independence. Physiotherapy sessions are usually an hour long and it is strictly one-on-one. Shardul strongly believes in educating client about self care/treatment and prevention.

His Massage Therapy approach is usually combination of Myofascial Release and Swedish Massage techniques.

Shardul is excited to be a part of Core Centre of Health. He strongly believes in Team approach and he believes that together, as therapists and practitioners with unique skillsets can be so effective in helping clients reach their goal faster and high-quality care under one roof.

More information on Myofascial Release-

Myofascial Release is a safe and very effective hands-on technique that involves applying gentle sustained pressure into the Myofascial connective tissue restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion. This essential “time element” has to do with the viscous flow and the piezoelectric phenomenon: a low load (gentle pressure) applied slowly will allow a viscoelastic medium (fascia) to elongate. The use of Myofascial Release allows the therapist to look at each patient as a unique individual. Our one-on-one therapy sessions are hands-on treatments during which our therapists use a multitude of Myofascial Release techniques and movement therapy. We promote independence through education in proper body mechanics and movement, self treatment instruction, enhancement of strength, improved flexibility, and postural and movement awareness. Each Myofascial Release Treatment session is performed directly on skin without oils, creams or machinery. This enables the therapist to accurately detect fascial restrictions and apply the appropriate amount of sustained pressure to facilitate release of the fascia. Shardul also has a special interest in horse rehabilitation. He helps horses and address their musculoskeletal issues through Equine Myofascial Release techniques.

Shardul enjoys Yoga, playing Tennis, Climbing, travelling and be outdoors. Open Mindedness, Altruism, Mutual Respect are some of his key qualities.”
